Verena L. Kreke, 93, of Effingham, passed away Sunday morning, September 3, 2017, at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham, with a 6:30 p.m. C.C.W. rosary.
Memorial donations may be given to the donor’s choice.

Verena was born October 9, 1923, in Teutopolis, the daughter of Clem and Rose (Rieman) Ruholl. She married Albert A. Kreke in 1943 and he preceded her in death in 2000. Verena was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Effingham and the Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed camping, quilting and playing cards.
Verena is survived by sons, Kenneth (Diane), of Mason; and Gary Joe (Marilee), of Effingham; daughters, Sandra (Tom) Cox, of Stewardson; Jeannie (Wayne) Funneman, of Teutopolis; and Cheryl (Jeff) Meyers, of Effingham; three brothers, Henry (Alice) Ruholl, of Teutopolis; Robert (Jane) Ruholl, of Teutopolis; and James (Debbie) Ruholl, of Farina; two sisters, Helen Walker, of Effingham; and Mary Lou (James) Vonderheide, of Stewardson; sisters-in-law, Norma Ruholl, of Teutopolis; and Vera Kreke, of Effingham; and 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Verena was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Susan (Gerald “Jerry”) Meyer; brothers, Wilbert, Norbert, Albert and Raymond Ruholl; and sisters, Elsie Sur, Eleanor Koester and Rosemary Hille.
