Mitch Hardiek and Brock Deters delivered RBI singles to help Teutopolis Junior Legion Post #924 win the opener and then took advantage of a costly throwing error to rally in the nightcap to complete the sweep over Effingham Junior Legion Post #120.
Both games were close throughout. T-Town took the opener 2-1 and then won the second game 4-3.
In the first contest, Teutopolis got on the board in the third inning. Luke Ungrund was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a base hit by Hardiek.
Post #120 tied it in the fourth. Colin Waymoth and Eli Moore both had base hits. Waymoth then scored on a ground out by Sam Thompson.
T-Town took the lead back in the bottom of the frame. Brady McMahon walked and went to the third on an errant pickoff attempt. Deters then delivered what proved to be the game-winning RBI single.
Ungrund relieved starter Trent Schwerdt in the third inning, pitching the final five innings and got the win. He gave up four hits and struck out six. Gavin Braunecker pitched a strong game for Effingham, but got the loss. The lefty allowed just three hits, while walking two and striking out 12.
Post #120 took the lead in the nightcap with a three-run fourth. Dalton Will and Dylan Guy got things started with base hits. Davis Tingley drove in the first run with a single. Guy scored on a ground out and Tingley made it 3-0 after scoring on a passed ball.
T-Town closed to within 3-1 on an RBI single by Brayden Will in the bottom of the fourth.
Then in the fifth, Ungrund singled with one out. Schwerdt then walked and Hardiek singled to load the bases. The next batter hit a ground ball, but all three runners were able to score when an errant throw rolled down the right-field line.
Deters, who relieved and pitched the final two innings, got the win for Teutopolis, while Guy absorbed the loss for Effingham.
