- New brewery owners Al Church and Dave Bauserman prepare to take a taste of one of their craft beers. The new 57/70 Brewery in Teutopolis will sell its product at alcohol retailers in Effingham County.
- Effingham County Sheriff’s Deputy Philip Hardiek has received a Meritorious Service Award by the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police State Lodge. Hardiek’s quick response helped save a woman’s life at the Dieterich Fourth of July Parade. - Pelicans are a normal site at the Newton Lake Fish & Wildlife Area in Jasper County. A little more than a week ago, someone shot and killed five pelicans and injured another.
