The Effingham County Chamber of Commerce has recognized Merz Heating & Air Conditioning as the September Chamber Member of the Month.

Cletus Merz founded Merz Sheet Metal in 1935. Clete’s son, Henry, joined the business in 1970, and five years later, expanded to the business’ current location at 509 South Willow Street. The business also expanded to include a full service residential heating and cooling division and additional expansion of commercial HVAC operations occurred.

In 1984, Pat Gebben began working for Merz, first as a service technician and later as an installer, sales and project manager. Gebben became part owner in 2005 and became sole owner of the business in 2016.

Pat and his team are engaged in the community and have received the United Way Volunteer Award and the Effingham Area Home Builders Association Chuck Warner Participation Award. They donate to a number of area causes and sponsor sports teams and academic achievement awards. Pat currently serves as a board member for both the Home Builders Association and the CTEC class, and also serves as the HVAC instructor for the program.
