Martha Thoele

Martha M. Thoele, 96, of Teutopolis, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Teutopolis, with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. A Ladies Sodality rosary for family and friends will be held at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30. Visitation will follow from 4-7 p.m. with a 6 p.m. wake service — all at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. There will also be visitation from 9:45-10:15 a.m. on Friday in St. Clare Hall at the church.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Martha was born on December 8, 1921, in Effingham, the daughter of Bernard and Christine (Metten) Dasenbrock. She was united in marriage to Richard Thoele on May 5, 1956. He preceded her in death on September 23, 2014.

Martha worked at the Illinois Glove Factory, as well as both the old and new St. Anthony’s Hospital in the surgery department. She was also a homemaker and helped her husband on their farm. Martha and her sister, Dory, also made numerous wedding cakes. Martha was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Teutopolis and St. Francis Altar Sodality of Catholic Women.

Martha leaves behind her daughter, Jo Ellen (Ron) Helmink, of Montrose; sons, Bill (Rosa) Thoele and Melvin Thoele, both of Teutopolis; grandchildren, Jonathan (Becky) Helmink, Deborah (Rob) Connell, Theresa (Joe) Fehrenbacher, Angela Helmink, Beth Helmink (fiancé, Dustin Parde), Kathryn Helmink, Derek Thoele, Russell Thoele, Sarah Thoele, Austin Thoele, and Shannon Thoele; 5 great-grandchildren, Carter Thoele, Ian Thoele, Brittany Helmink, Macy Helmink and Christian Parde; brother-in-law, Leroy Thoele; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
