Jack was born on December 31, 1947, in Effingham, the son of the late George and Velma (Buchanan) Hille. He attended Effingham High School. He joined the Army in 1965. He served in Vietnam, where he received the Purple Heart.

He married the love of his life, Phyllis Bannick, on July 10, 1982, in Elliottstown. Jack retired after 38 years as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Effingham. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and VFW in Effingham. He loved to hunt and ride his Harley, but his family and friends were the most important to him. Spoiling his grandchildren is what he did best.

Vernon; Madison Bannick, of Dieterich; and Hunter Bannick, of Dieterich; brother, Robert Hille, of Effingham; brother-in-law, Terry (April) Bannick, of Dieterich; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
