Mr. Koester was born on March 1, 1977, in Effingham, the son of Dennis F. and Linda M. (Worman) Koester.

He graduated from Teutopolis High School in 1995 and then attended Eastern Illinois University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree. He was an Industrial Technology Education teacher at Altamont Community Unit School District No.10. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis.

Jay was always the life of the party everywhere he went. He never knew a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. He was just a big ole teddy bear with an endless smile and contagious laugh that could brighten anyone’s day. He was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, friend and what he was most proud of – uncle.

Jay is survived by his loving mother, Linda M. Koester, of Teutopolis; brother, Kevin (wife, Jill) Koester, of             Altamont; sisters, Kristina Koester and Holly Koester, both of Teutopolis; niece, Avyree Scholes; nephew “aka Bubber,” Andrew Dennis Koester; grandmother, Mildred Koester, of Effingham; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, or in our eyes his clone, Dennis F. Koester; grandfather, Gerald Koester; grandparents, Leo and Eleanor Worman; uncles, Randy Seaton and Steven Koester; and aunts, Leah Koester and Mary Jane Koester.
