Effingham Police Department Bureau of Patrol reported the following traffic crashes involving injures or tickets issued. Anyone ticketed is innocent until proven guilty through a court of law.

At 2:57 p.m. on April 14, a vehicle, driven by Laura L. Westenhaver, 55, of Watson, struck a vehicle, driven by Ruth A. Kersey, 59, Effingham, at Jaycee Avenue and Banker Street. Westenhaver was ticketed for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

At 1:18 p.m. on April 14, a vehicle, driven by an Effingham 17-year-old, whose name was not released, failed to negotiate a turn, left the roadway and struck and damaged a stop sign before striking a tree and coming to a stop at the intersection of Linden and Richland. The teenager was ticketed for no valid driver’s license, improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

A vehicle, driven by Jonathan A. Griffith, 27, Sigel, struck a vehicle, driven by John H. Gillmore, 46, Edgewood, at 6:59 p.m. April 12 at Fayette and Raney. Gillmore was injured and taken by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. Griffith was ticketed for disobeying a traffic control device.

At 2:11 p.m. April 11, a vehicle, driven by Hollie H. Kingery, 85, Effingham, struck a vehicle, driven by Patricia D. Niehaus, 53, Altamont, at Fayette and Maple. Kingery was ticketed for failure to yield.

A vehicle, driven by Karen A. Freed, 51, Effingham, rear-ended a vehicle, driven by Jason M. McFarland, 45, Altamont, at 7:30 a.m. April 5 at Fourth and Fayette. Both drivers were injured and taken to St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for treatment. Freed was taken by private vehicle while McFarland was transported by ambulance. Freed was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident

At 8:13 a.m. April 9, a vehicle, driven by Warren D. Schlechte, 86, Effingham, struck a vehicle, driven by Beth A. Karnes, 46, Beecher City, at Keller and Evergreen. Karnes was injured but refused medical treatment at the accident scen

A vehicle, driven by a 17-year-old, whose name was not released, backed into two parked vehicles, owned by Jennifer Boerngen, Montrose, and Emily Quast, Effingham, at 3:02 p.m. April 5 on West Grove at Effingham High School. The teenager was ticketed for driving while license suspended, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

A semi truck, driven by Jerald Spivey, 21, Jonesboro, Georgia, was turning around at Willenborg and Silver Lake at 9:24 p.m., April 5. The truck left the roadway and became stuck in a ditch. The grass and yard, owned by Anthony Runde, Effingham, were damaged. Spvey was ticketed for disobeying a traffic control device.
